Easyjet, a British low-cost airline, is to close half of its flights from Budapest. From January 2023, you will be able to reach only three destinations with the budget airline from the Hungarian capital.

Budapest Airport decreased the expected number of passengers in 2023 by 2 million last week. That is because different airlines lower the number of directions and flights they plan to operate from Budapest. Among them, there is the second biggest European low-cost airline, British Easyjet. They continue to eliminate flights planning the same even with their oldest one in Hungary.

According to utazomajom.hu, a Hungarian travel news website, the company entered with seven destinations. They took out Lyon, France quickly. The same happened with Manchester, but that destination was restarted multiple times, just to be permanently closed this June.

After came the Hungarian government’s excess profits tax (departure tax), meaning that the airlines needed to pay extra tax after each plane ticket they sell. The last flight to Amsterdam departed in October with the promise that it would return to Budapest next summer. Since then, the company has taken out that destination from their summer timetable. And that means you will not be able to travel to the Dutch capital with a low-cost airline. The only option remains Wizz Air, but they fly to Eindhoven in the Netherlands.

  1. Luckily, we have Wizz. The other carriers appear to be scrambling for the door! Pretty sad situation – due to our geographic location, we are reliant on good air connections. Don’t think everyone realizes the importance of this, also for business.
